What Aaron Glenn, Jets Players Said About Getting Walloped By Patriots

'No words can explain that'

There’s really no dressing things up for the New York Jets: Sunday was an unmitigated disaster.

The Jets are playing for pride at this point, and they looked like a team that had little, if any, as they got steamrolled by the New England Patriots, 42-10.

In large part because of injuries, the Jets trotted out a lineup that frankly belonged in a final preseason game. Still, they allowed a touchdown on the Patriots offense’s first six drives, and went into halftime trailing 35-3. It was an unacceptable showing from the Jets by any measure, even if the Patriots are the AFC East champions

The optics are worse when you consider another dreadful team, the Cleveland Browns, managed to play spoiler against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

There wasn’t much Jets players could do after the game other than wear it.

“No words can explain that,” offensive lineman John Simpson said, via a team-provided transcript. “That was unacceptable. That’s the best word I can use to explain it.”

“It’s just disappointing,” linebacker Jermain Johnson II lamented. “Embarrassing. That’s pretty much it. You know, that’s a collective as a team, as a defense. I’m sure offensively they feel the same way.”

What do you think?  Leave a comment.

“It’s just really frustrating,” Jets offensive lineman Armand Membou said of the halftime deficit. “You obviously play a game to win, so it’s just frustrating.”

Perhaps the most damning comment came from head coach Aaron Glenn, who called out his players’ effort in a remark that can be taken many ways coming from a coach on a red-hot seat.

“Highly, highly disappointed on the way that we came out,” Glenn said. “To allow this team to come out and score I think on the first six drives. It’s not good. Offensively, we were stagnant. Also, we allowed them to pressure the quarterback, threw another interception this game, which was not good.

“And, man, I always talk about how we come out and we play with effort. Today was probably the one time I felt like our effort wasn’t as good as I’d want it to be. And that’s just me not BS’ing you guys, just being honest. I didn’t think that the effort was where it needed to be. We have to figure that out.”
