What Red Sox Reportedly ‘Expected’ To Pursue After Willson Contreras Trade

Boston reportedly will keep its sights on offensive help

Craig Breslow and the Red Sox added a right-handed bat in a reported trade for Willson Contreras.

And Sunday’s move serves as the third impactful trade of the offseason for Boston, which also acquired veteran right-hander Sonny Gray and depth arm Johan Oviedo from the Cardinals and Pirates, respectively.

So, what’s next? According to MassLive’s Chris Cotillo, the Red Sox will continue to search for another bat.

“With Contreras in tow, the Red Sox are expected to continue pursuing offensive (help) via free agency and trade,” Cotillo wrote Sunday night after the trade for Contreras.

One player who figures to be in the mix is none other than Alex Bregman, who opted out of his contract with the Red Sox earlier this offseason in hopes of landing a deal with longer term. The Red Sox “remain engaged” in talks with Bregman, Cotillo wrote.

On the other hand, Boston is expected to halt trade talks for Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte.
