'Guys were sharp'
The Boston Bruins suffered a 3-1 home loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday, but the team was happy with their play.
Although Boston suffered a loss, Bruins head coach Marco Sturm was happy with the team’s play. Sturm felt like the team played well 5-on-5, which is something the team can build on.
“I was really happy, actually, with our 5-on-5 game,” Sturm said on Thursday, as seen on NESN’s postgame coverage. “We made one mistake, little mistake, and it cost us one goal. But other than that, I thought it was pretty good.
“You can’t give up one, and you can’t give up one on the power play, too. That’s a hard one. Overall, it was just a little bit frustrating because I thought guys were into the game, guys were sharp.”
The Bruins were tied 1-1 after the first period, but Boston allowed the next two goals, including the third goal being shorthanded, which was a backbreaker. Another one of Edmonton’s goals came on the power play.
Although Sturm wished the Bruins played better on special teams, he knows this game will make Boston better.
“I like playing teams like that because they make you better,” Sturm added. “That one mistake, it will make us better, trust me. And that’s a good thing.
“For me, it’s a great teaching game. Really good. Cost us maybe two points, but overall, I do believe those kinds of games will help.”
The Bruins will return to the ice on Saturday at home against the Vancouver Canucks.
