Yankees Sign Pair Of Former Red Sox Players To Minor-League Deals

The duo didn't spend much time with Boston

The New York Yankees recently signed a pair of former Boston Red Sox players to minor-league deals, inking catcher Ali Sanchez and infielder Zack Short to contracts.

According to the Yankees’ MLB.com transaction log, New York signed Short to a deal on Dec. 12 and added Sanchez on Wednesday.

The news was reported by Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors on Monday morning.

Neither Short nor Sanchez spent much time with the Red Sox, as the former suited up for just two games in Boston during the 2024 season and the latter appeared in four contests with the team during the 2025 campaign.

Short, who played with the Detroit Tigers from 2021 to 2023, went 0-for-7 with four strikeouts during his short Red Sox stint in May 2024, while Sanchez was 0-for-2 with a strikeout with Boston in August and September.

The Red Sox designated the backstop for assignment in August and he signed with the New York Mets two days later. The Mets traded Sanchez back to Boston on Aug. 31.
