Boston Radio Host Calls Out Media’s Phony Jarrett Stidham Hype

''Jarrett Stidham is good.' No, he isn't!'

Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton immediately named career backup Jarrett Stidham the starting quarterback after it was announced that Bo Nix broke his ankle and would be unable to play in the AFC Conference Championship game against the New England Patriots.

This led NFL fans to crown the winner of the Patriots-Texans divisional round game the eventual AFC Champions.

However, in the days since New England dominated Houston, the tone has changed. There has been a resurgence within the media singing the praises of former Patriots quarterback Stidham.

Many high-profile analysts predict a Broncos victory, with some going as far as to say the quarterback drafted seven years ago is better than Drake Maye.

Marc Betrand of NBC Sports Boston went on “Arbella Early Edition” to vent his frustration with the growing narrative that Stidham is a serviceable starter.

“I must have missed all of the quarterback battles that Jarrett Stidham has been involved in prior to this point,” Bertrand said. “I must have missed the one at the start of last season when Bo Nix was a rookie. Oh, wait, no. They just handed the keys to Bo Nox as a rookie…

“I must have missed it when Russell Wilson was the quarterback. When Sean Payton pretty much signaled once a week that he didn’t like his starting quarterback, but waited until the end of the year to finally give Stidham a chance, I must have missed the quarterback battle there.”

To take the position that this all-important game against the league’s best defense will come down to far more than quarterback play is more than fair. But Bertrand is offended by the growing narrative that the Broncos are somehow “not that worse off” with Stidham under center.

“Nobody has ever wanted this guy as their starter,” Bertrand said. “Now he ends up as a starter this week in one of the most important games of the season, and for five days I’ve heard people try to talk themselves into ‘Jarrett Stidham is good.’ No, he isn’t!

“And he’s not going to be good on Sunday, and if the Broncos pull off the upset, it’s not going to be because of this guy!”
