Bruins Explain Lack Of Power Play Success In Win Over Penguins

Boston went 0-for-6 on the PP

The Boston Bruins picked up a 1-0 home win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday in the second half of a back-to-back.

Boston entered play coming off a 10-2 blowout win over the New York Rangers on Saturday. With both teams playing the second half of a back-to-back, it showed as there were tired legs.

Meanwhile, Boston went 0-for-6 on the power play, and forward Viktor Arvidsson believes that was due to the fatigue.

“Maybe some mental tiredness,” Arvidsson said on Sunday of the power play struggles, as seen on NESN’s postgame coverage. “We weren’t as sharp as we usually are, but we’ll keep doing what we’re doing, keep playing, and that’s brought us success this year and the details we’re playing with on the power play.”

Arvidsson scored the lone goal of the game 11 minutes into the first period, which was his ninth goal of the season.

Although neither team played well, Bruins goalie Joonas Korpisalo was just happy Boston got the win.

“A win is still a win,” Korpisalo said. “I was hoping the guys could save a couple of goals for today, and we did, one. That was a good team effort today.”

Korpisalo stopped all 27 shots he faced to extend Boston’s win streak to three games.

With the win, the Bruins improved to 25-19-2 and are just outside of a playoff spot. Boston will return to the ice at home on Tuesday against the Detroit Red Wings at 7:30 p.m. ET.
