Arizona is saying, 'now or never'
If the Boston Red Sox are going to trade for Arizona Diamondbacks star Ketel Marte, it’s probably going to happen soon, or not at all.
According to a new report from Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the window to acquire Marte via trade is closing fast.
“The Diamondbacks have told teams trading season for star 2B Ketel Marte will end soon,” Heyman wrote on January 1. “The Red Sox, Rays and Mariners have been bidding.”
Marte has built an excellent MLB career since his 2015 debut with the Seattle Mariners. Signed as an amateur free agent in 2010, he was traded to the Diamondbacks in November 2016 in a deal that also involved Taijuan Walker. Marte’s breakout came in 2019, when he batted .329 with 32 home runs, earning his first All-Star selection and establishing himself as a switch-hitting threat capable of playing multiple positions, including second base, shortstop, and center field.
Over 11 seasons through 2025, Marte has appeared in 1,230 games, amassing 1,273 hits, 171 homers, and a .281 batting average, with a career WAR of 35.6.
In 2025, at age 31, Marte delivered another impressive campaign for the Diamondbacks, who finished 80-82 and missed the playoffs. He played 126 games, hitting .283 with 28 home runs, 72 RBIs, and an .893 OPS, earning his third All-Star nod, a Silver Slugger award, and 22nd place in NL MVP voting.
