Diamondbacks Reportedly Acquire Nolan Arenado In Cardinals Trade

Arenado to Arizona.

According to multiple sources, including ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the Arizona Diamondbacks have acquired third baseman Nolan Arenado in a trade with the St. Louis Cardinals.

Arenado’s 2025 season with the Cardinals marked a somewhat challenging chapter in his storied career. Limited to 107 games due to a shoulder injury that sidelined him after the trade deadline, Arenado batted .237 with 12 home runs and 52 RBIs, posting a .666 OPS. Despite the offensive dip, he maintained solid defense at third base, though the year reflected physical struggles he later attributed to playing through pain.

Over his 13-year MLB tenure, starting with the Colorado Rockies in 2013 and moving to the Cardinals in 2021, Arenado has amassed a .282 average, 353 home runs, and 1,184 RBIs. He’s earned eight All-Star nods, 10 Gold Gloves, six Platinum Gloves, and five Silver Sluggers, leading the NL in home runs three times and RBIs twice.

Arenado had a no-trade clause that he exercised in 2024 to block a trade to the Houston Astros. Circumstances have changed in St. Louis, however, and Arenado reportedly started feeling differently about his future with the Cardinals, especially after seeing the club trade Ryan Helsley. In joining the D-Backs, Arenado will be playing for a winner during what looks like the final phase of his career.
