Maye's alleged injury was addressed by Vrabel
New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye’s alleged shoulder injury might be real, but it also seems to be blown out of proportion…
Dr. David J. Chao, a former Los Angeles Chargers team doctor who has since transitioned to a controversial sports media career, claimed the sophomore signal-caller injured his right shoulder during the club’s AFC Championship victory over the Denver Broncos.
It’s all a bunch of bull, though, right?
No, not quite.
Greg Bedard of the Boston Sports Journal and Mike Reiss of ESPN, two of the most well-sourced reporters surrounding the team, both made it sound like there was something there with regard to Maye.
Mike Vrabel was asked several times about the alleged ailment, and finally gave some answers, during his press conference on Tuesday.
Q: Is there a chance the injury was blown out of proportion on social media?
A: Probably… I think that everybody, including Drake, is not at 100% during this part of the year. We’ll do everything that we can to help our players be prepared and get ready for this game.
Q: Did Maye hurt his shoulder on Sunday?
A: No, I wouldn’t say that anyone hurt anything. This is a sport where there’s going to be things that come up, but we’ll talk about whatever status each player has for the game once we’re required to. We understand that, but we were able to function offensively — throw the football, run the football, — so that’s kind of where everyone is at.
The Patriots will likely submit an injury report following their first official practice on Thursday.
If we don’t see the sophomore signal-caller, it’s safe to say he’ll be ready to go for Super Bowl LX. If we do, there’s a wonder of just how substantial the injury is and whether or not it will impact his availability — though there is a very small chance it does.
