'Why isn't anyone going for Boston?'
Boston Red Sox pitcher Ranger Suárez has always been a fan of… well, the Boston Red Sox.
Suárez, who officially signed his contract with the club on Wednesday, explained how that fandom came to be during his introductory press conference in the “521 Overlook” at Fenway Park.
“When I was a kid and we would watch baseball, what would be on was Red Sox-Yankees,” Suárez said through translator Daveson Perez, as seen on NESN. “I asked, ‘Why is no one going for Boston?’ and that is where the interest started… Babe Ruth pitched here and played here, and you hear about Pedro Martinez and David Ortiz and all of the legends that have come through here, and that’s what really captivated me about this opportunity.”
Suárez has pitched well against both sides of the rivalry, as he carries a career 0.00 ERA against the Red Sox and a career 2.35 ERA against the Yankees.
Boston sure is glad he’ll be on the right side in the coming years…
