Former Patriots Assistant Dubbed ‘Obvious’ Coaching Fit For Bills

The Buffalo Bills stole headlines Monday morning with the team’s shocking decision to fire longtime head coach Sean McDermott after playoff appearances in eight of nine seasons.

The Bills became the tenth team to fire their head coach this cycle, and by showing up late to the party, Buffalo has already missed out on the opportunity to interview premier candidates like John Harbaugh and Kevin Stefansky.

All four coaches hired so far share one thing in common: prior head coaching experience.

This is part of the reason why former New England Patriots Super Bowl-winning assistant Brian Daboll has emerged as a favorite to land a job with his former team.

“Daboll and Brady are obvious names to watch in Buffalo,” NFL Network’s Peter Schrager wrote in an X post.

Todd McShay, who has extensive relationships with people inside organizations all over the league, also thinks the former New York Giants head coach should be the favorite to land with the AFC East rival.

“Brian Daboll has the experience/relationship with Josh Allen,” McShay wrote. “Played a role in Allen’s development and is one of the better offensive minds in football. Daboll grew up in the Buffalo area…”

Daboll was the offensive coordinator in Buffalo when the Bills drafted reigning MVP Josh Allen. He left to take his first head coaching job in New York and was fired in the second week of November after four years with the Giants.

He opened the market as a +200 favorite to get the job.
