Jaylin Davis played for the Red Sox in 2022
Former Boston Red Sox pitcher Jaylin Davis announced his retirement at 31 years old on Thursday. He spent four seasons in the big leagues.
“After a lot of thought, I’ve decided to hang up the cleats and officially retire from professional baseball,” Davis wrote on Instagram. “I’m beyond grateful for every part of the journey — the long bus rides, rain delays, and late-night Waffle House runs, but most of all, the friendships and memories that came with them. Baseball has taken me places I never dreamed of and taught me lessons I’ll carry for the rest of my life.”
Davis went on to thank his teammates, coaches, staff and family. He last appeared in the big leagues with the Red Sox in 2022. He played in just 12 games for the Red Sox. He signed with the Mets in 2023, but did not appear in the big leagues and spent most of the season in Triple-A.
He spent 2024 in the American Association of Professional Baseball playing for the Milwaukee Milkmen. In 2025, he played in the Atlantic League and the American Association of Professional Baseball.
After bouncing around in independent leagues the last two seasons, he has decided to hang it up. He finished his big league career playing in just 38 games. He hit two home runs in the big leagues, both as a member of the San Francisco Giants.
The Red Sox claimed him off waivers in 2022. Even though his time in the big leagues was short-lived, he beat the odds and made the big leagues despite being a 24th-round pick. That round no longer even exists in the modern version of the MLB Draft.
Davis’ career slash line was .207/.274/.299. He had six RBIs in his career. He played 652 games in the minor leagues, hitting 111 home runs across all levels.
