Former Super Bowl MVP Trolls Patriots With Bo Nix Sidelined For AFC Championship

Nick Foles trolled the Patriots on X

The Patriots have punched their ticket to the AFC Championship Game, and they are the favorites going into the game against the Denver Broncos.

After the Broncos defeated the Buffalo Bills, Sean Payton shockingly revealed that Bo Nix will undergo season-ending ankle surgery after suffering an injury in the final plays of the game. As a result, the Patriots will face Jarrett Stidham with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line.

After a strong season, Broncos fans are likely feeling hopeless now that their quarterback is out. However, it’s not unheard of for a backup to step in and lead a team to a championship. In fact, one of the most famous Super Bowl runs in recent memory came from Nick Foles, who stepped in for Carson Wentz and ended up defeating the Patriots in Super Bowl LII.

Foles stepped in for Wentz in Week 14 of the 2017 season. At the time, Wentz was an MVP candidate and the Eagles were 11-2. With the Patriots slated to face a backup quarterback, Foles took to X to remind everyone what he did to the Patriots in the Super Bowl.

“Note for the Broncos and their fans: I know it has been an emotional 24 hours,” Foles wrote on Sunday. “I feel for Bo and the team, and I’m sending prayers for a strong recovery. A positive note going into the game versus the Patriots is that they struggle against backup QBs in championship-type games.”

Foles had a legendary game in Super Bowl LII. He went 28-for-43 with 373 passing yards and one interception. He also caught a touchdown in what became one of the most memorable plays in NFL history.

It will be difficult for Stidham to replicate what Foles did against the Patriots in 2018. However, anything can happen in the NFL. Payton has expressed confidence in Stidham, who played eight games for the Patriots during his first two years in the league.
