A departure from most Super Bowl takes.
The New England Patriots are 4.5-point underdogs in Super Bowl LX against the Seattle Seahawks, but Fox Sports 1’s Kevin Wildes doesn’t seem to care.
On Thursday, Wildes made a prediction for the big game that Patriots fans will love and Seahawks fans will scoff at.
“My feeling about the Super Bowl is, I don’t think this is going to be close,” Wildes said. “I think Drake Maye is going to light up the Seattle defense.”
It’s obvious that Wildes is banking on Maye to have a big night, and Drake has the entire 2025 NFL season to indicate that he very well might.
Maye delivered a breakout second campaign for the Pats, transforming the team from a 4-13 squad the previous year into AFC contenders. Starting all 17 games under new head coach Mike Vrabel and with Josh McDaniels calling plays, Maye completed 354 of 492 passes (72.0%) for 4,394 yards, 31 touchdowns, and just eight interceptions. His passer rating of 113.5 led the NFL, along with top marks in completion percentage and yards per attempt (8.9). He also contributed on the ground with 103 rushes for 450 yards and four scores.
The Patriots finished 14-3, claiming the AFC East title and the No. 2 seed in the playoffs with a dramatic 10-win improvement that matched a league record.
Standout moments for Maye included a historic performance against the Jets in Week 17: 19-of-21 passing for 256 yards and 5 touchdowns in a 42-10 rout, setting marks for completion percentage, yards, and scores in such a game. Maye earned PFWA Most Improved Player honors, second-team All-Pro recognition, and MVP consideration.
In the postseason, Maye guided New England past the Chargers (16-3 wild-card win), Texans (28-16 divisional victory with 3 TD passes), and Broncos (10-7 AFC Championship triumph in snowy Denver, where his late-game scramble sealed the deal).
