Matthew Stafford Claims End-of-Season Honor Over Patriots Drake Maye After Head Coaches Vote

Sporting News named Stafford the All-Pro quarterback

The New England Patriots are in the Super Bowl and Drake Maye is an MVP candidate after helping lead them there.

May is not favored to win the MVP Award, and Matthew Stafford is expected to win the award. Stafford was named a First-Team All-Pro and to the Professional Football Writers of America All-NFL Team over Maye already.

In the Sporting News’ NFL All-Pro Team, voted on by NFL head coaches, Stafford was voted in as the quarterback.

“The likely Associated Press NFL MVP at the NFL Honors led the league with his career-high 46 TD passes and 4,707 passing yards, the first time he’s ever been first in either category at age 37,” wrote Sporting News’ Vinnie Iyer.

Maye finished the season with 4,394 yards, 31 touchdown passes, 450 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns. He took a huge step forward and looks like the franchise quarterback the Patriots have been searching for since Tom Brady left.

Even though Maye might lose the MVP Award vote to Stafford, he has his team in the Super Bowl, which is more important. Stafford would likely much rather be in Maye’s position right now.

Maye is only 23 years old and figures to have a long career ahead of him. He should be in plenty of MVP conversations in the rest of his career.
