Mike Vrabel Details Why Patriots Have Success On The Road

'Not beating ourselves'

The New England Patriots will be going back on the road for the AFC Championship Game on Sunday to play the Denver Broncos.

New England has been solid on the road this season, as the Patriots went a perfect 8-0 on the road during the regular season. Although a road playoff game is a bit different, Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel believes the team knows what to do to have success on the road.

“I just think that they really focus in on the road environment, like you said, of starting well, not beating ourselves, trying to be good at the line of scrimmage, the communication offensively that’s required to make sure that everybody’s on the same page, that the snap count is good and that guys are moving when they’re supposed to be moving,” Vrabel said on Monday.

“I think we’ve executed in some critical situations when we’ve needed to on the road, and those are things that are important.”

Vrabel believes the Patriots being well-prepared helps them on the road and leads to success.

The head coach also believes the Patriots don’t get too high or too low during games, which helps them just focus on one play at a time.

“I think the guys don’t get too high or too low,” Vrabel added. “Hopefully, we can understand that we can feed off each other, but also pick each other up. The defense has been doing that a little bit lately. We have to do a better job of not making it be a sudden change, but making it be complementary.

“When the offense is rolling, getting the ball back to them quickly. But also, if the situation arises that we have to go out there and play defense on short notice, that we’re able to do that as well. And then offensively, we can string some drives together, and the special teams continue to try to set the table.”

The Patriots are 5.5-point road favorites over the Broncos in the AFC Championship Game.
