Vrabel was hired barely over one year ago
The Buffalo Bills fired longtime head coach Sean McDermott on Monday, two days after the team’s divisional round loss against the Denver Broncos.
Monday’s stunning news means that New England Patriots lead man Mike Vrabel is now shockingly the longest-tenured head coach in the AFC East.
Vrabel was hired on Jan. 12, 2025, barely over one year ago.
The Miami Dolphins fired Mike McDaniel as their head coach on Jan. 8 and New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn was hired by Gang Green 10 days after Vrabel rejoined the Patriots.
McDermott and McDaniel are far from the only head coaches to be relieved of their duties in recent weeks or months.
The Bills are the 10th team to let go of their head coaches since the middle of the 2025 season.
The Tennessee Titans fired Brian Callahan from his post in October and the New York Giants said goodbye to Brian Daboll in November.
The Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons, Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns, Las Vegas Raiders and Pittsburgh Steelers will also have new head coaches during the 2026 season.
