What?!
Back on September 4, the NFL posted a graphic to its official X page that depicted players from various teams all looking ahead to Super Bowl LX.
The “We’re so back” caption was an announcement that the NFL season had returned. By featuring Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley in the image, along with Super Bowl hopeful QBs like Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, and Brock Purdy, the image was communicating who were seen as likely contenders at the time.
What’s crazy and even a bit haunting about the image is that, if you look closely, the two players standing in front of everyone else in the image are New England Patriots QB Drake Maye and Seattle Seahawks QB Sam Darnold, side by side.
Whoever made this image seems to have known something that the rest of us didn’t!
Super Bowl LX is set to be a matchup between two juggernauts, even if people didn’t realize how good these teams would become during the course of the season.
The Patriots powered through the 2025 NFL season with a 14-3 record, securing the AFC East title under head coach Mike Vrabel. Maye emerged as a dual-threat force, leading the team to average 28.8 points per game while the defense allowed just 18.8.
In the playoffs, they dominated the Chargers 16-3 in the Wild Card round, followed by a 28-16 victory over the Texans in the Divisional. Their gritty 10-7 win against the Broncos in the AFC Championship on Sunday amid snowy conditions at Mile High clinched their Super Bowl spot.
The Seahawks matched that dominance, finishing 14-3 atop the NFC West with coach Mike Macdonald at the helm. Darnold orchestrated a high-octane offense averaging 28.4 points, complemented by a stout defense. Postseason highlights included a 41-6 rout of the 49ers in the Divisional round and a tense 31-27 triumph over the Rams in the NFC Championship, sealed by a late fourth-down stop.
Super Bowl LX is a rematch of the 2015 thriller, set for February 8 at Levi’s Stadium. Seattle enters as 4.5-point favorites, but New England’s resilient defense could spark an upset in what promises to be a clash of explosive offenses and tactical coaching.
