A big promotion in Buffalo.
NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport has reported that the Buffalo Bills are set to name offensive coordinator Joe Brady the team’s next head coach.
Known for his rapid rise, Brady gained fame as LSU’s passing game coordinator in 2019, followed by a stint as an offensive assistant under Sean Payton’s Saints and a stint as the Carolina Panthers’ offensive coordinator (2020–2021). With Carolina, he was the youngest offensive coordinator in the NFL at the time, but he was fired during his second season in Carolina after a 5-7 start in 2021.
In Buffalo, Brady began as the QBs coach, was promoted to interim offensive coordinator in Nov. 2023, then permanent OC. He helped revitalize the Buffalo offense, becoming a key figure in Josh Allen’s development.
Brady is recognized for his adaptability, frequently utilizing 12 personnel (two tight ends) and focusing on a balanced, “run-first” approach to complement explosive passing games.
Brady will have big shoes to fill in Sean McDermott, but if he’s able to advance to a Super Bowl during the Allen era, he’ll have accomplished essentially what McDermott was fired for failing to achieve.
The Bills may have missed their window to dominate the division, however, now that the New England Patriots have emerged as Super Bowl contenders.
