NFL Writer’s Bold Prediction Doesn’t Bode Well For Potential Patriots Trade Target

'It would be a financial nightmare'

The New England Patriots should aim to bolster their wide receiver corps this offseason, and Philadelphia Eagles star A.J. Brown could be a top target in the mix.

While Brown isn’t currently a free agent, his apparent frustration with his role in Philadelphia’s offense this season has sparked speculation about a potential trade. Despite this, Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley recently predicted that Brown will remain with the Eagles next season.

“Granted, this could be posturing, since the Eagles would gain nothing by publicly discussing their willingness to move one of their best players,” Buckley wrote on Friday. “Still, it sounds like more than that. Maybe Brown won’t be a Philly Lifer, but this isn’t a great time to move him. It would be a financial nightmare, and it’s hard to imagine his trade value is peaking.”

Eagles general manager Howie Roseman addressed the media on Thursday, and he didn’t seem particularly concerned about the possibility of moving Brown off the roster.

“It’s hard to find great players in the NFL and A.J.’s a great player,” Roseman said. “That’s what we’re going out and looking for, when we go out in free agency and the Draft, is trying to find great players who love football and he’s that guy. So that would be my answer.”

A lot can still change before the new season kicks off in mid-March, but the Patriots, who could be the top destination for Brown, may need to explore other wide receiver options this offseason.
