It's going to be a massive day for Boston sports fans
Sunday, Feb. 8, is going to be one of the best Boston sports days in recent memory.
At 12:30 pm ET, the Boston Celtics will host the New York Knicks at TD Garden in a showdown between two of the best teams in the Eastern Conference.
Six hours later, the New England Patriots will play in Super Bowl 60 against the Seattle Seahawks.
It’s the first time both teams have played on Super Bowl Sunday since 2019. The Celtics edged the Oklahoma City Thunder in a 134-129 thriller at TD Garden before Tom Brady and Bill Belichick led the Patriots to a 13-3 victory over the Los Angeles Rams.
Both teams also won on Super Bowl Sunday in 2017. The Celtics beat the Los Angeles Clippers in Paul Pierce’s final game at TD Garden before the Patriots famously erased a 28-3 deficit against the Atlanta Falcons.
In other words, both teams have had a lot of success on Super Bowl Sunday recently, although this year will be different for both squads.
The Celtics remain without Jayson Tatum, who’s missed the entire season with an Achilles injury. Meanwhile, the Patriots are kicking off a new era with Drake Maye, Mike Vrabel and others.
Accordingly, it’s possible both teams could lose. The Patriots are listed as early underdogs for their game against the Seahawks in Santa Clara, as Seattle is widely considered the stronger team. Meanwhile, the Celtics have lost five of their last seven games against the Knicks, so that game will likely be a toss-up.
In the meantime, Boston sports fans have two weeks to prepare for what will be an exciting day for the city, regardless of how either game turns out.
