An incredibly focused version of the New England Patriots head coach, Mike Vrabel, took the podium Friday afternoon ahead of an all-important Week 18 matchup.
New England will take on the Miami Dolphins, with the AFC No. 1 seed on the line. Although they do not control their own destiny.
Vrabel spoke on many things during his short post-practice press conference, but seldom the opponent.
Many questions revolved around how the coach is preparing his team for a long playoff run, as well as how the team is balancing quarterback Drake Maye’s MVP campaign. He made little to no comment on how New England is navigating Christian Barmore and Stefon Diggs’ legal troubles.
However, reporters were not going to let him off the hook during the holiday season and asked him to share his New Year’s Resolution.
“New Year’s Resolution?” Vrabel asked. “No. Just win as many games as we possibly can. Thanks, guys.”
One reporter ended Vrabel’s questioning with a light-hearted callback to a now-viral answer Maye gave to the media about playing Foxborough High School in response to criticisms about the Patriots’ strength of schedule.
“That one’s been around since I played here,” Vrabel said, referencing the Foxborough High School joke. “Anything that we can do to support Foxborough High School football team, I am willing to do. So maybe next year we can tie in a scrimmage before our stadium scrimmage.
“We’ll come up with something creative, I’m sure. Give me and Stretch (John Streicher) a year.”
