Kayshon Boutte Sounds Off After Viral Comment Taken Out Of Context

Are the Patriots and Broncos really having a war of words?

Kayshon Boutte isn’t about to allow media outlets to twist his words into something they aren’t.

The ascending receiver has been dragged into a Patriots-Broncos war of words that isn’t even happening. On Thursday, Boutte was asked for his reaction to Denver head coach Sean Payton saying fans would get two weeks of rest after Sunday’s matchup with New England, essentially guaranteeing an AFC Championship Game victory.

“Can rest in Cancun too at the end of the day,” Boutte told reporters. “So, it is what it is.”

The comment took on a life of its own. ESPN ran a graphic saying Payton and Boutte were trading “barbs”, while other outlets, including Underdog NFL, added “they” to the front of Boutte’s remark, making it seem like he was firing a direct shot at the Broncos.

The latter example prompted a reply from Boutte, who set the record straight in an X post.

“I was saying it’s obviously ‘win or go home’ so you’ll rest regardless,” he wrote.

With all that said, Boutte would be a prime candidate to talk trash ahead of Sunday’s game in Denver.

He downplayed the much-hyped Houston Texans defense before last Sunday’s divisional-round matchup — and backed it up in the dramatic win. He also trolled ESPN’s “NFL Live” panel, which unanimously picked the Texans to beat the Patriots.

However, in this case, Boutte seemingly provided an innocuous remark that got taken out of context by media outlets desperate to manufacture storylines. Such is life as a professional athlete.

The Patriots and Broncos will kick off at 3 p.m. ET on Sunday. The winner will face the Seattle Seahawks or Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LX.
