'Something that we'll have to continue to use'
New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel knows Drake Maye’s legs will be a key to success in Super Bowl LX.
The Patriots’ offense hasn’t been at its best throughout the playoffs, but they have done enough to win games. Yet, one key area of the offense is the run game, especially quarterback runs with Maye.
Ahead of Super Bowl LX against the Seahawks, Vrabel said Maye’s scrambling ability will be something the team will rely on.
“Yeah, it’s something that we’ll have to continue to use, and I think his judgment has been good,” Vrabel said on Thursday. “When you can move the ball down the field and throw it, obviously that’s what we would like.
“And then when it’s not there, and it gives us an advantageous look for him to be able to extend plays – we talked about remaining a passer or a thrower, but then there’s other times where he’s decisive and he’s able to go north and south.”
Maye has rushed for 141 yards and a touchdown in the playoffs. In the AFC Championship, his legs were the key as he rushed for 65 yards and a touchdown, including picking up a first-down with his legs on 4th-and-6 to end the game.
So, if New England’s offense is firing on all cylinders in the Super Bowl, Vrabel expects Maye’s legs to be a key reason why.
