Patriots Predicted To Sign Colts 1,000-Yard Receiver For Drake Maye

Alec Pierce would be a great signing

The New England Patriots signed Stefon Diggs last offseason, and he has turned out to be a great weapon and leader.

The Patriots have solid weapons behind Diggs, but they could be looking to add even more talent around Drake Maye to maximize their chances of winning Super Bowls with him. There are some solid options slated to hit the open market, including Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alex Pierce.

Pierce had a great season and established himself as one of the better receivers in the league this season. Following his first 1,000-yard campaign, he will hit free agency looking to cash in. Sports Illustrated’s Ethan Hurwitz predicted the Patriots would sign him.

“The Patriots won’t be overly aggressive in free agency, but will hit on some players that fit their scheme,” wrote Hurwitz on Jan. 6. “At the top of that list is Pierce, whose sure hands and deep ball ability is a dream come true for Josh McDaniels and Drake Maye. A 3-year deal worth upwards of $70 million could lure the 1,000-yard receiver to New England.”

Despite the Colts losing Daniel Jones for the season, Pierce continued to put up great numbers. He led the league in yards per reception for the second consecutive season. Overall, he had 1,003 yards and six touchdowns.

Pierce was the Colts’ leading receiver last season despite playing fewer offensive snaps than Tyler Warren and Michael Pittman Jr. The Colts figure to make a push to keep him, but the Patriots could benefit from adding a player like him. Diggs, Pierce, Mack Hollins, Kayshon Boutte, Kyle Williams and Demario Douglas would be a great receiving corps.

Maye is already playing like an MVP candidate. Adding another weapon in Pierce could make the Patriots an even bettr offense.
