Patriots Rival Touted As ‘Worst Possible’ Landing Spot For Fernando Mendoza

'If that were to happen'

Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza played a key role in helping the Hoosiers clinch the national championship on Monday night. Now, all eyes are on him as speculation swirls about where he will land in the NFL.

The Las Vegas Raiders currently hold the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft and are likely to select Mendoza. However, if they don’t fully support that choice, there’s a chance he could drop to the No. 2 spot.

At No. 2, we have the Jets, who are also in need of a quarterback. However, Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay believes that Mendoza landing in New York would be the worst-case scenario for him.

“If that were to happen, Mendoza’s unique talents would run serious risk of being wasted in the Big Apple,” Kay wrote on Tuesday. “The long-suffering Jets have drafted four quarterbacks with top-40 picks over the last two decades, none of whom panned out as promised.”

The Jets would be an interesting landing spot for Mendoza since they don’t have much talent on offense outside of wide receiver Garrett Wilson and tight end Mason Taylor, with running back Breece Hall set to hit free agency.

Walking into New York with head coach Aaron Glenn already on the hot seat and a roster lacking in talent could be a tricky situation. However, if there’s one player who might rise to the occasion, it’s Mendoza. He managed to turn one of the least successful college football programs into a champion.
