Patriots Star Opens Up About Facing Former Team In NFL Playoffs

Hunter Henry will take on his old team

Hunter Henry has spent 10 seasons in the NFL: five with the Los Angeles Chargers and five with the New England Patriots.

Henry debuted with the Chargers as a second-round draft pick in 2016 and quickly established himself as one of the league’s better tight ends. He joined the Patriots in free agency five years later and has been one of their most consistent pass catchers.

Now, the 31-year-old will face his former team on Sunday night when New England hosts Los Angeles in the Wild Card Round of the NFL Playoffs.

On Friday, Henry shared his feelings about the upcoming matchup.

“I mean, it’s cool. Team that brought me into this league, gave me a chance,” Henry told CLNS Media. “Was a special time to be over there, but, I really enjoyed my time over here. Excited to play them this weekend and it’ll be fun.”

This marks Henry’s third career postseason game and first in four years. He’s still searching for his first playoff win. Funnily enough, his first postseason game was a road loss to the Patriots in early 2019.

This will be Henry’s fourth time playing the Chargers, as he’s already faced them three times during the regular season. This time will be different, however, as the stakes are considerably higher.

Henry has struggled versus his former team, managing just three catches on nine targets for 48 yards against them. This will be a chance for redemption with a spot in the Divisional Round on the line.
