'Celtics fans travel'
Paul Pierce played 19 seasons in the NBA for four different franchises on both coasts, so he knows the league and its distinct fanbases very well.
He spent 15 of those years with the Boston Celtics, so he knows them the best. He appreciates their passion, their loyalty and their willingness to travel around the country to watch them play.
During a recent episode of Derrick White’s “White Noise” podcast, White marveled at how many Celtics fans he saw during the team’s recent road trip.
“We were in Sacramento, and I went in the lobby, and there were just people everywhere,” White said.
Pierce wasn’t surprised by the strong turnout.
“Our fans travel, you know. Celtics fans travel,” Pierce said. “We got certain arenas where we’re damn near at home. You go to Denver, Atlanta, Washington. I’m sure it’s still like that.”
White agreed, remembering a time in Denver when the net broke and there was a long delay. Fans started chanting “Let’s go Celtics” and “Let’s go Nuggets,” but the cheers for Boston were louder.
The Celtics are one of the most famous, popular and successful professional sports teams in America, so they have fans everywhere. It’s not surprising that they travel well, especially against younger teams with less-established fan bases.
