Rams Reportedly Hire Former Patriots Player As New Special Teams Coordinator

Los Angeles' special teams had a rough season

The Los Angeles Rams are expanding their coaching staff by bringing in a former New England Patriots player to join them.

KPRC 2 Houston’s Aaron Wilson reported on Thursday that the Rams are hiring Raymond “Bubba” Ventrone as their special teams coach.

Ventrone served as the Browns’ assistant head coach/ special teams coach from 2023 to 2025. After the season concluded, Cleveland fired head coach Kevin Stefanski, creating an opening for Ventrone to explore other opportunities.

The Patriots signed Ventrone as an undrafted free agent in 2005, and he appeared in 17 games over two seasons. He returned to the Patriots as an assistant special teams coach from 2015 to 2017, then moved to the Indianapolis Colts in 2018 to serve as their special teams coordinator.

The Rams fired special teams coach Chase Blackburn on Dec. 20 after the unit struggled for most of the season.

Ventrone brings over 11 years of NFL experience as a special teams coach to the Rams, who are eager to improve in that area as they strive to reach the Super Bowl.
