Red Sox Miss On Rumored Gold Glove Free-Agent Target

He signed a minor-league contract

A potential depth option for the Boston Red Sox will reportedly join a National League squad.

Dylan Moore signed a minor-league contract with the Philadelphia Phillies, per The Athletic’s Will Sammon. The utility player will receive a major-league invite to spring training and could make up to $3.25 million if hitting incentives in the big leagues.

MassLive’s Chris Cotillo said the Red Sox had interest in Moore, previously reporting Monday that Boston had “some conversations” with the 33-year-old.

A career .206 hitter, Moore batted .201/.267/.374 with the Seattle Mariners and Texas Rangers last season. Despite his contact woes, Moore’s plate discipline, speed and defensive versatility helped him play 671 career games in Seattle.

Moore has paired a bloated 30.3 strikeout percentage with a strong 10.5 percent walk rate throughout his career. He’s swiped 118 bases, including 32 steals in 2024.

A 100 weighted runs created plus (wRC+) depicts him as a league-average hitter who could benefit from a change of scenery. After spending most of his career in Seattle’s pitcher-friendly T-Mobile Park, he could earn a chance to unlock more power at Citizens Bank Park.

However, teams like the Red Sox and Phillies may have been particularly interested in Moore’s defense. The 2024 American League Gold Glove winner played every position other than pitcher and catcher last season.

Moore is most experienced at second base, where he registered five defensive runs saved in 2025. That could have made him an intriguing addition for a Red Sox infield that can use an upgrade at the keystone position or third base following Alex Bregman’s departure.
