Red Sox Reportedly Sign Towering Righty Reliever To Minor League Deal

The Red Sox have signed Patrick Halligan to a minor league contract

The Boston Red Sox have signed 26-year-old right-handed relief pitcher Patrick Halligan to a minor league contract, Andrew Parker of SoxProspects.com reported on Tuesday.

Halligan, who stands at 6-foot-6, is a 2021 13th-round draft pick of the Kansas City Royals.

He spent two years in the Royals’ farm, highlighted by a 2022 Triple-A appearance with the Omaha Storm Chasers.

His next two seasons were spent in the Atlanta Braves’ farm system, bouncing mostly between Double- and Triple-A appearances. He threw 45 1/3 innings and allowed 13 earned runs for Double-A Mississippi.

Last season was his fifth in the minors, spending the majority pitching for the Houston Astros’ Double-A affiliate.

Halligan allowed 20 earned runs in 51 2/3 innings pitched. He struck out 62 batters and walked 21, posting a 3.48 ERA and 10.8 strikeouts per nine innings.

At 230 pounds, Halligan is not a hardball thrower. He generates strikeouts with a low-to-mid 90s fastball, working with a slider and a splitter.

Halligan becomes the second relief pitcher that Boston has signed to an MiLB contract this week.
