Stevenson has been on fire for New England lately
The New England Patriots are gearing up for their wild-card playoff matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers. Heading into this contest, the Pats offense is rolling, with their rushing attack, led by TreVeyon Henderson and Rhamondre Stevenson, coming on strong in recent weeks.
While Henderson’s ascent has generated quite a bit of attention, Stevenson’s redemption from his early-season struggles has flown a bit more under the radar. In New England’s final five regular-season games, Stevenson racked up 319 yards and four touchdowns on just 41 carries, while also catching 15 passes for 171 yards and another pair of scores.
Against the Miami Dolphins in Week 18, Stevenson racked up 131 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries, while also catching two passes for 22 yards and a third score. With his work on the ground as a rusher, Stevenson officially moved into the top five of the Patriots all-time rushing leaders.
New England’s franchise history has been dominated by strong quarterback play, but it has also featured a slew of talented running backs who have come to town and found a way to make their mark. Stevenson has joined that crew, as he’s turned himself into a perfect complement alongside Henderson on offense this season.
With the postseason now here, Stevenson is going to need to continue excelling in his jack-of-all-trades role. He’s been more effective than Henderson both as a receiver and in pass protection, so he will continue to have a big role on offense moving forward.
Finding room to run on the ground against the Chargers could be tough, but with the way Stevenson has been playing as of late, that may not matter. Kickoff for this highly important postseason clash is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. ET on Sunday night.
