Shams Charania Reports Celtics Eyeing Trade For This Kind Of ‘Big-Time’ Player

Will Boston make a major deal?

Perhaps to the surprise of many, the Boston Celtics are in a position to add ahead of the Feb. 5 NBA trade deadline.

But what kind of player could they pursue? And what quality of player are they eying?

ESPN’s Shams Charania, the top insider in the industry, offered insight during a “Pat McAfee Show” appearance last week.

“They’ve been in the marketplace, trying to go get a big-time starting center potentially,” Charania said. “So, they’re gonna be, I think, aggressive in moving the needle. They’ve got assets, they’ve got contracts to use and play with.”

The Celtics entered Friday with a 29-18 record, good for third in the Eastern Conference and seventh in the NBA. Despite looking at a potentially lost season for star Jayson Tatum, Boston looks like a legitimate contender in the East, largely thanks to the performance of Jaylen Brown.

The Celtics will host the Sacramento Kings at 7:30 p.m. ET on Friday. They’ll follow it up with games against the Milwaukee Bucks, Dallas Mavericks and Houston Rockets.
