"Shoot, I think everybody knows..."
The Houston Texans’ vaunted defense came as advertised during their AFC wild-card round victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday night.
Houston’s second-ranked unit (17.4 points allowed per game during the regular season) limited the Steelers to 175 yards of offense, sacked Aaron Rodgers four times and scored two defensive touchdowns in the fourth quarter to ice the 30-6 win.
Second-year safety Calen Bullock had the final touchdown of the night, picking off Rodgers and returning the interception 50 yards for six points.
With MVP candidate Drake Maye and the New England Patriots on deck in the AFC Divisional Round, Bullock had some strong words regarding the Texans defense.
“Shoot, I think everybody knows we are the best defense,” the 22-year-old said, according to a report by ESPN’s DJ Bien-Aime. “The whole world knows that. Every time we go out there we show it and we went out there and showed it today. I don’t even think they scored a touchdown.”
Houston not only kept Pittsburgh out of the end zone, but the Texans also became the second team in playoff history to score multiple defensive touchdowns in a game without giving up a TD, according to ESPN Research.
The Patriots opened as favorites for Sunday afternoon’s contest vs. Houston and New England currently has the best odds to win the Super Bowl among the final four AFC squads, per DraftKings Sportsbook.
