'I don't understand it'
Like most of the NFL world, Tom Brady couldn’t make sense of Bill Belichick’s shocking Pro Football Hall of Fame omission.
Despite winning six Super Bowls for the New England Patriots alongside Brady, the most ever of any NFL head coach, Belichick reportedly didn’t receive enough votes to make this year’s Hall of Fame class. Brady blasted the snub during a Wednesday radio interview on Seattle Sports’ “Brock and Salk.”
“I don’t understand it,” Brady said. “I mean, I was with him every day. If he’s not a first-ballot Hall of Famer, there’s really no coach that should ever be a first-ballot Hall of Famer. Which is completely ridiculous because people deserve it.
“He’s incredible. There’s no coach I’d rather play for. If I’m picking one coach to go out there and win a Super Bowl, give me one season, I’m taking Bill Belichick.”
Brady chastized the Hall of Fame’s voting process as a popularity contest after ESPN’s Don Van Natta Jr. and Seth Wickersham reported an effort to make Belichick “wait a year” as punishment for New England’s Spygate scandal.
“Welcome to the world of voting,” Brady said. “You may as well go try out for the Oscars or whatever. Get a big panel to tell you if you’re good or not. It’s the way it works.”
Brady predicted Belichick would ultimately get enshrined in Canton despite the baffling delay.
“He’s gonna get into the Hall of Fame,” Brady said. “In the end, I’m not worried about that. A lot of times in life, for all of us, things don’t happen exactly how you want it on your timeline. But we’ll all be there to celebrate him when it does happen. He’s gonna have a huge turnout from so many players, coaches that appreciated everything that he did, the commitment he made to winning and the impact that he had on all our lives. And that will be a great celebration when it happens.”
