Unexpected Patriots Player Earns Offensive Player Of Week Honors

Morgan Moses had a great outing on Sunday

The New England Patriots defeated the Houston Texans on Sunday to advance to the AFC Championship Game, and Morgan Moses had a stellar game.

Moses is in his 12th NFL season and his first season with the Patriots. At age-34, he has started every game this season, and played great against the Los Angeles Chargers in the Wild Card Round. However, he was named Offensive Player of the Week by Pro Football Focus for his game against the Texans.

“In a weekend that was relatively quiet for skill position players, Moses stood out with an excellent performance at right tackle for the Patriots,” wrote PFF’s Gordon McGuinness. “He did not allow a single pressure across 34 pass-blocking snaps and posted a 94.9 PFF run-blocking grade, the highest among all offensive linemen this weekend.”

In a game where Drake Maye was under constant pressure from the left side, Moses held things down on the right side. In 23 matchups against Danielle Hunter and Will Anderson Jr., he allowed no pressures or sacks. Anderson was named the Defensive Player of the Week by PFF.

It was the second consecutive playoff game with no pressures allowed by the veteran tackle. Anderson and Hunter combined for five sacks and seven pressures in the game, per PFF, but none came against Moses.

No sacks, hits, hurries or pressures for Moses in 63 snaps for Moses was key to the Patriots winning. Not only was he great in the passing game, but he made his presence felt in the run game.

Patriots.com’s Evan Lazar also noted that the Patriots picked up 45 rushing yards in the fourth quarter, running behind Moses and Mike Onwenu. Moses was not a flashy signing for the Patriots in the offseason, but he has done his job well and is an important piece for them.
