Yankees Acquire Left-Hander In Five-Player Trade With Marlins

The Yankees added some bullpen depth.

According to NY Daily News Sports’ Gary Phillips, the New York Yankees have traded for left-hander Ryan Weathers in a deal that sends four prospects to the Miami Marlins.

These prospects are Dillon Lewis, Brendan Jones, Dylan Jasso and Juan Matheus.

Weathers’s 2025 season with the Marlins was marked by injuries that limited him to eight starts. He posted a 2-2 record with a 3.99 ERA over 38 1/3 innings, striking out 37 batters while walking 12, resulting in a 1.28 WHIP. A left flexor strain sidelined him early, and a lat strain kept him out from June until September. Upon return, he showed promise in outings like a shutout win against the Washington Nationals but struggled in others, including a loss to the Philadelphia Phillies.

Over his career, the 26-year-old left-hander, drafted seventh overall by San Diego in 2018, has compiled a 12-23 record with a 4.93 ERA across 70 appearances (55 starts) and 281 innings, amassing 235 strikeouts. After debuting in 2020, he faced ups and downs with the San Diego Padres before a 2023 trade to Miami, where he improved in 2024 with a 3.63 ERA.
