Yankees Have Reportedly Made Formal Contract Offer To Former MVP

Ok, now what?

The New York Yankees still have work to do this offseason. Their rivals in the American League East have been busy, but the Yankees have been quiet. That might change soon, though.

According to The New York Post’s Jon Heyman, the Yankees have made a contract offer to former National League MVP Cody Bellinger, who spent last season in the Bronx.

“The Yankees submitted a formal offer to Cody Bellinger this week,” Heyman wrote on January 1.

Bellinger has built an impressive MLB career marked by peaks and resilience. Debuting with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2017, he claimed Rookie of the Year honors with 39 home runs. His 2019 season brought National League MVP status, featuring 47 homers and 115 RBIs. Injuries hampered him from 2020 to 2022, resulting in the Dodgers non-tendering him after that stretch.

Bellinger revived his form with the Chicago Cubs in 2023 and 2024, earning Comeback Player of the Year in 2023. Traded to the New York Yankees in December 2024, he delivered a solid 2025 campaign, hitting .272 with 29 home runs, 98 RBIs, 13 stolen bases, and a 5.1 WAR across 152 games, primarily in the outfield. He also secured All-MLB Second Team selection.
