'Little surprising to hear'
New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone has responded to new Boston Red Sox infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa’s recent comments.
Kiner-Falefa was a member of the Toronto Blue Jays last season, and he said Toronto had hoped the Yankees defeated Boston in the American League Wild Card Series.
“We thought it was a better matchup for us the other way,” Kiner-Falefa said on Tuesday about wanting the Yankees to defeat the Red Sox. “We were watching Crochet just dice up.
“…We definitely felt like it was a tougher matchup for us. So, once we saw the other team (win), we were a lot happier. It was definitely a topic.”
It was an interesting comment from Kiner-Falefa, and Boone responded to it on Wednesday and admitted he was surprised to hear the former Yankees infielder say that.
“I guess he was right,” Boone said on Wednesday, responding to Kiner-Falefa’s comments. “Little surprising to hear ‘IKF’ say that. But whatever, that’s fine.”
Kiner-Falefa’s dig at the Yankees will only help the rivalry between the Red Sox and New York. And, as Boone said, Kiner-Falefa was right as Toronto dominated New York in four games to advance to the ALCS.
Kiner-Falefa, meanwhile, signed a one-year, $6 million deal with the Red Sox this offseason. He will now be a utility bench player for Boston.
The Red Sox and Yankees will meet for the first time on April 21 in Boston in what will be a highly anticipated game.
