Brayan Bello Reveals He’s Learning New Pitch From Ranger Suarez

'I’m going to learn a lot from him'

The Boston Red Sox made three additions to bolster their rotation this offseason.

Boston traded for Sonny Gray and Johan Oviedo and also signed Ranger Suarez. Those three are expected to join Garrett Crochet and Brayan Bello in the rotation.

Bello enters this season as an intriguing pitcher, as he struggled at times last season. Yet, the right-hander is eager to learn from the new additions, as he said he’s already learning a changeup, or how to improve his from Suarez.

“I’m somebody who always wants to learn and improve, and I was playing catch with (Suárez) and telling him I was trying a new grip on my changeup, asking for some advice on how to release the ball,” Bello said through an interpreter, via The Athletic.

“I feel like with him this year, I’m going to learn a lot from him and the other guys, and I’m very excited for this season.”

Gray, meanwhile, has already been impressed with Bello and his pitching arsenal.

“He’s gross; I came away with that impression,” Gray said about Bello. “I saw that he was throwing a curveball. I didn’t know that’s new. The sinker is disgusting.”

Bello went 11-9 with a 3.35 ERA in 29 games last season.

Boston will open its 2026 MLB season on March 26 against the Cincinnati Reds.
