Bruins Named As Potential Landing Spot For Two-Time All-Star Forward

Boston could be buyers ahead of the trade deadline

The Boston Bruins entered the Olympic break holding onto a playoff spot, and the team could now be buyers ahead of the NHL trade deadline.

Boston could look to upgrade its roster, and one area of need could be adding another top-six forward. There will be plenty of names available, and one player that is likely to be traded is New York Rangers star forward Vincent Trocheck.

The Rangers announced their intention to rebuild, and New York has already dealt Artemi Panarin. Trocheck – who’s representing Team USA at the Winter Olympics – is also likely to be traded before the March 6 trade deadline.

Ahead of the deadline, NHL insiders Peter Baugh and Vincent Z. Mercogliano of The Athletic named the Bruins as a potential landing spot for Trocheck.

“The Bruins are in a similar position to the Penguins,” the insiders wrote in an article published on Tuesday. “They’ve arrived ahead of schedule this season and find themselves in playoff position at the Olympic break.

“Trocheck would make their lineup more formidable for the final push after years of searching for help down the middle.”

Trocheck is a two-time NHL All-Star and is in the fourth year of his seven-year, $39.375 million deal, as he’s owed $5.625 million for three more seasons.

So, if the Bruins do acquire Trocheck, it wouldn’t just be for this season. Instead, he would be part of the core for multiple years, which could entice the front office to pull the trigger.

Trocheck has recorded 12 goals and 24 assists for 36 points in 43 games this season.

Boston will host the Columbus Blue Jackets on February 26 in its first game after the Olympic break.
