Celtics, Amari Williams Reportedly Agree To New Contract

Williams just signed a new deal.

According to multiple sources, the Boston Celtics and big man Amari Williams have agreed to a two-year, $2.7 million contract.

Williams, 24, began his college journey at Drexel University, where he emerged as a dominant force in the Colonial Athletic Association. Over four seasons from 2021 to 2025, he earned back-to-back CAA Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2022 and 2023, leading the conference in blocks multiple times while averaging double figures in points and rebounds in his later years.

He posted career highs at Drexel with 13.7 points and 8.8 rebounds per game in 2022-23, showcasing his rim protection and rebounding tenacity.

Transferring to Kentucky for the 2024-25 season, Williams elevated his game further, starting all 36 contests for the Wildcats. He averaged 10.9 points, a team-high 8.5 rebounds, and 3.2 assists, leading the squad in field-goal percentage at 56.1%. His versatility shone through with 10 double-doubles and a historic triple-double against Ole Miss, making him one of the few Division I players to achieve specific statistical milestones in points, rebounds, assists, blocks, and steals.

Selected 46th overall by the Orlando Magic in the 2025 NBA Draft and traded to Boston, Williams signed a two-way contract, splitting time between the Celtics and their G League affiliate, the Maine Celtics.

In his rookie NBA campaign, he has appeared in 13 games with two starts, averaging 1.7 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 0.7 blocks in 8.2 minutes per outing.

Recent contributions include a nine-point, seven-rebound effort against Portland on January 26 and a brief stint against Milwaukee on February 1.

However, he has excelled in the G League, notching multiple double-doubles and near-triple-doubles, culminating in a 26-point, 12-rebound, eight-assist performance with the game-winning basket in overtime against Sioux Falls on February 4.
