Drake Maye Makes Promise To Patriots Fans After Poor Play Down Stretch

Maye did not play great in the playoffs

The New England Patriots lost the Super Bowl, and Drake Maye did not play great for most of the game.

Maye turned it up in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough. He did not play great in the playoffs overall, and he acknowledged that fact on Tuesday while speaking to reporters. However, he made a promise to the fans in the process.

“I know I didn’t play as well as I would have liked down the stretch, and promise to do my best to work hard and get us back to those moments,” Maye said on Tuesday, per the Boston Herald’s Doug Kyed.

Maye was the MVP runner-up and had a great season overall. He had just 828 passing yards in four playoff games and completed less than 60% of his passes. He also threw four interceptions in four playoff games.

Maye fumbled the ball seven times during the playoffs as well. Ultimately, his stellar regular season did not translate to the playoffs. The Patriots played four elite defenses in the playoffs and were able to win three of those games. However, it was clear that Maye could have done more.

Maye also revealed that he suffered a shoulder injury in the AFC Championship Game, something that many had already speculated to be true. He was limited in practice after the AFC Championship Game, but he also noted that he will not need surgery.

Maye was an MVP candidate and a Second-Team All-Pro in just his sophomore season. The future is bright in New England, and Maye seems motivated to get even better.
