Former Patriots Coach Joins Eagles’ Revamped Coaching Staff

One of New England's old friends has found a new home

The NFL offseason has been dominated by a hectic coaching cycle, and after losing Super Bowl LX, the New England Patriots are just getting in on the fun. While the Pats shouldn’t have to make too many changes to head coach Mike Vrabel‘s staff, they do need a new defensive coordinator after transitioning Terrell Williams into a new, high-ranking role.

While New England hasn’t been busy so far when it comes to finding new coaches to fill out its staff, the same can’t be said for some of its old friends. The latest guy who formerly worked for the Patriots who has found a new job appears to be Mike Pellegrino.

After spending 10 years with N.E., Pellegrino spent the 2025 campaign with the Buffalo Bills as a nickels coach. With Sean McDermott getting fired, that forced Pellegrino to find a new job, and he has reportedly latched on with the Philadelphia Eagles as a defensive backs coach.

“The Eagles are set to hire Bills nickels coach Mike Pellegrino as a defensive backs coach, sources tell CBS Sports,” Matt Zenitz reported in a post on X. “Before Buffalo, the 32-year-old Pellegrino worked for the Patriots for 10 seasons, including the final six as cornerbacks coach.”

Pellegrino spent six years working as the Patriots’ cornerbacks coach, so this is a role he has quite a bit of familiarity with. The Eagles have been aggressive in retooling their coaching staff after a disappointing 2025 season, and Pellegrino should prove to be a great fit as he works on developing guys like Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean.

As for New England, the big question mark right now is the defensive coordinator role. Zak Kuhr is the obvious choice to replace Williams, considering he filled in for him all season long, but could Vrabel be looking for a more flashy option? Time will tell, but there shouldn’t be much turnover on his coaching staff once this move gets made.
