Brown is a starter in the NBA All-Star Game for the first time
The Boston Celtics and their fans will be keeping tabs on superstar forward Jaylen Brown on Sunday night as the All-Star Game unfolds. For the first time in his career, Brown was named a starter in the All-Star Game, but it doesn’t seem like he’s too fazed by that development.
With Jayson Tatum still recovering from a torn Achilles tendon, Brown has helped the C’s remain one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference. Through 49 games, Brown is averaging 29.3 points, 6.9 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game (all of which are career highs) while shooting 48.3% from the field.
That has helped Brown emerge as a real contender in the MVP race, and it wasn’t much of a surprise to see him get selected as one of the starters for the All-Star Game. And yet, while that is a big accomplishment for Brown, it doesn’t seem to be something he’s concerned about.
“No, it doesn’t feel any different,” Brown bluntly said when asked about being a starter in the All-Star Game this time around. “But I’m happy to be here. I’m very grateful.”
The All-Star Game is experimenting with a new format once again this year, as two American squads will face off against the World team in a round-robin tournament. Whether or not it will lead to a more competitive game remains to be seen, though.
Brown, for one, seems open to the new tournament, but that doesn’t exactly mean it will be met with positive reviews. Once Brown finishes up at the All-Star Game, he will turn his attention to the C’s return to action, which will see them square off against the Golden State Warriors on Thursday.
