Jaylen Brown’s Prophetic Celtics Prediction Was Absolutely Spot On

Brown's prediction looks even better in hindsight

Four years ago, on Jan. 31, 2022, Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown made a social media post that changed everything.

With the Celtics mired in the middle of a disappointing season under new head coach Ime Udoka, Brown wrote “The energy is about to shift” in a post to his X account.

Nobody knew it at the time, but Brown was absolutely correct. Four years later, his bold prediction looks even better in hindsight.

Boston immediately turned its season around and was one of the best teams in basketball from that point forward, going all the way to the NBA Finals. While the Celtics lost to the Golden State Warriors, they won it all in 2024 after one of the most dominant seasons in NBA history.

Even now, Boston’s still one of the best teams in basketball despite losing Jayson Tatum to injury and many of its veteran stars to trades and free agency. Brown is playing the best basketball of his life, performing at an MVP level and carrying the Celtics in Tatum’s absence.

Saturday marked the four-year anniversary of Brown’s famous post. During that time, Boston has had the best regular-season record in the NBA at 237-88, 25 1/2 games better than anyone else. Including the playoffs, it’s 284-115.

Brown was right. The energy did shift, and it hasn’t shifted back.

The Celtics will try to maintain their dominance when they host the Milwaukee Bucks on Sunday to close out their four-game homestand. After that, they head to Texas for a quick two-game road trip against the Dallas Mavericks and Houston Rockets.
