Jayson Tatum Reveals What Joe Mazzulla Means To Celtics

Tatum shares his real thoughts on Mazzulla

Jayson Tatum has played for Joe Mazzulla for three and a half years now, so he knows the Boston Celtics’ head coach pretty well at this point.

Mazzulla is one of a kind and much different than Tatum’s previous head coaches, Brad Stevens and Ime Udoka.

During his appearance on Ryan Clark’s “The Pivot” podcast last week, Tatum shared his honest thoughts on Mazzulla and what he brings to the Celtics.

“It’s real. The person that y’all see in the interviews and the clips, that’s exactly who he is,” Tatum said. “Joe is one of the best people I’ve ever been around. One of the best, genuine, fierce. He’s the ultimate competitor. He wants to win at all costs. One of the toughest guys I ever met.”

According to Tatum, Mazzulla’s famous passion and intensity are for real, which makes him a great coach to play for.

“He cares about every single person in that locker room, on staff, in that organization,” Tatum added. “We’ve all played for different coaches…I think it means a little bit more when they care about you, like, as a person, and that’s exactly who Joe is.”

Mazzulla’s approach clearly works, as his players all play hard for him, buy into his philosophies and win for him. He’s one of the best coaches in the NBA, and his thoughtful approach to the game and his players seems to be a big reason why.
