'It will be a huge factor in the game'
The Seattle Seahawks secondary may have dodged a bullet on Thursday when head coach Mike Macdonald revealed that injured rookie safety Nick Emmanwori is expected to suit up in Super Bowl LX vs. the New England Patriots.
The Seahawks boast one of the best defensive fronts in the league as well, finishing tied for sixth in the NFL with 47 sacks during the regular season.
Among the biggest players along Seattle’s defensive line are five-time Pro Bowler DeMarcus Lawrence and three-time Pro Bowler Leonard Williams, who combined for 13.0 sacks in regular season play.
Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel said on Thursday that his team’s offensive line’s performance on Sunday will go a long way to deciding the outcome of Super Bowl LX. He specifically pointed to how the Seahawks “execute stunts and line games as a catalyst,” according to MassLive’s Chris Mason.
“It will be a huge factor in the game,” Vrabel said. “They are really good at it. That’s a strength of what they do. That’s how they are able to apply pressure with a four-man rush, is they can straight rush and guys work off of each other, but then guys work well together to get somebody else free or even be the guy that gets free. They pick, they drive to the quarterback and they make it difficult on you.”
New England’s offensive line has been scrutinized over the group’s playoff run, with quarterback Drake Maye being sacked five times in each of the first three postseason contests.
Vrabel doubled down on the importance of the line’s effort on the big stage.
“So, that will be a huge factor in the game, our ability to protect those in passing downs and passing situations, and not let the guy get to the back hip of the lineman, and then be able to drive, and then you create a two-on-one,” he said, per Mason’s report.
