NFL Writer Urges Patriots To Add 2,934-Yard Free Agent Wideout

New England has to add another veteran wide receiver

The New England Patriots need to concentrate on enhancing their passing game this offseason, and one potential strategy is to bring in a veteran wide receiver.

New England could explore trade options or target a player in free agency. If the Patriots are considering free-agent wide receivers, Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report suggested that Alec Pierce, a receiver with the Indianapolis Colts, could be a viable option to pursue, along with Jauan Jennings from the 49ers.

“Free agents like Colts receiver Alec Pierce, San Francisco 49ers receiver Jauan Jennings, and Atlanta Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts should be on New England’s radar,” Knox wrote on Monday.

Pierce has been with the Colts since 2022 and just completed a standout season, amassing 47 receptions for 1,003 yards and six touchdowns over 15 games. Pierce now has 2,934 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns in 64 NFL games.

The Patriots should be on the lookout for a reliable wide receiver to complement Stefon Diggs, and Pierce could fill that role nicely. He played a significant part in helping Colts quarterback Daniel Jones perform well before he suffered a torn Achilles tendon midway through the season. Bringing Pierce to New England could provide a safety blanket for Drake Maye.
