Red Sox Move Right-Hander To 60-Day Injured List

He still has a long way to go.

According to multiple reports, the Boston Red Sox have officially moved right-hander Tanner Houck to the 60-day Injured List.

This moves allows Boston to add newcomer Isiah Kiner-Falefa to the 40-man roster.

Houck’s 2025 season proved challenging and ultimately short-lived. The right-hander made nine starts, posting a 0-3 record with an 8.04 ERA over 43.2 innings pitched. He allowed 57 hits, including 10 home runs, while striking out 32 batters against 17 walks, resulting in a 1.69 WHIP. Struggles became evident early, with multiple outings featuring high run totals, and by mid-May, an elbow injury sidelined him. A rehab attempt faltered, leading to hybrid UCL reconstruction surgery (a form of Tommy John procedure) in mid-August. This ended his year prematurely and set him up for a lengthy recovery.

Career-wise, Houck, a first-round pick by Boston in 2017, debuted in 2020 and has spent his entire MLB tenure with the Red Sox. Through 2025, he holds a 24-32 record, 3.97 ERA, and 449 strikeouts across 113 games (80 starts) and 474.1 innings. His standout 2024 campaign saw him earn All-Star honors, finishing 9-10 with a 3.12 ERA and 154 strikeouts in 178.2 innings, establishing him as a reliable rotation piece with strong ground-ball tendencies.

Houck remains in recovery from the August 2025 surgery. He aims to return toward the end of 2026, though a full comeback to the rotation might be delayed into 2027.

Houck’s path back could involve a gradual build-up, potentially starting in relief or limited innings upon activation.
